The 2004 Grand Prix of Australia was held on March 7 2004. It was the 1st event of the season. The Grand Prix was held at the Albert Park circuit and was 58 laps long. The race was won by Michael Schumacher. It was his first win towards his world championship that year. The German, who drove for Ferrari, finished the race in 1:24:15.757. He had a lead of 13.6 secs to Rubens Barrichello who came in second and finished 34.6 secs in front of Fernando Alonso who was third. Of the 20 drivers who competed in the race, 6 retired.
It was the 20th time that the Grand Prix of Australia was held and the 9th time at the Albert Park circuit.
