The race was won by Rubens Barrichello. It was the 1st win of the season for Barrichello. He would eventually get 2 wins in 2003. The Brazilian, who drove for Ferrari, finished the race in 1:28:37.554. He had a lead of 5.4 secs to Juan Pablo Montoya who came in second and finished 10.6 secs in front of Kimi Raikkonen who was third. Of the 20 drivers who competed in the race, 3 retired. After the race Michael Schumacher was leading the driver championship with 69 points. Rubens Barrichello remained 5th but closed the gap to the number 4 with 4 points to just 4 points.
